A beautiful and rare agave from United States and Mexico rumoured to be one of the hardiest Agaves second only to Agave Montana. Various experiments have been carried out by cacti and succulent enthusiasts with mixed results some claiming its hardy down to -20oc others just -10oc. Personally I wouldnt attempt to try this one outside unless its planted against a south facing wall and not untill its at least 30cm plus in diameter. It will over winter as a small plant happily in a cold greenhouse if kept dry. Plants come in 9cm pots. Repot once a year in a cacti mix (4 parts regular compost and one part horticultural grit) and water regularly in summer and plants will grow rapidly. Eventual size of rosette will reach 60cm in diameter and after 20 years a 3.5m plus flower spike will erupt from the centre.
